User to user mutual relationship graphs

So, this is my offering to three_weeks_for_dw: I am making graphs of participant circles for posts and comments to communities! (And I hope to continue making more kinds of fun graphs you can get by certain activities.) They can be explained thusly:

The graph consists of nodes (the circles with the journals names on them) and edges (the lines between the nodes).
A line between two nodes means that those two users have a mutual relationship. That means they subscribe to each other, give each other access, or both.
The size of the node indicates how many mutual relationships that user has in total--the more, the bigger the node.
The color of the node indicates how many relative mutual relationships that user has with you--the darker the red, the more connections you two share.
Note that you don't show up in the graphs, since you are connected to everybody
If you have a relationship with a user but they don't have any relationships with anybody else you're connected to, they don't show up either (I call them "singlets").

You can get a network graph if the account you're requesting if with that account you have made, since April 26th or later:

Three posts to three communities.
Comments to six different posts in at least three different communities.

For each additional post or 3 comments you make to a community, you can choose one of the bonus add ons:

A list of all of the singlets--people who don't have any mutual relationships with other people in your circle
A graph that highlights connections between people in your biggest clique and a list of your biggest clique(s)
For you geeks, a dot file you can play around with in GraphViz.

Put the links to the posts or comments in your request, and follow the rules of the communities you are posting to!
Unfortunately, the posts and comments will need to be public ones, so I can see them and verify. By default, I will put your graph(s) up on my web hosting and link you to it, so you can point to it in your journal easily (although it really is best if you host it for yourself, just in case), but if you'd prefer me to email it to you, just let me know.

If you don't know how to find communities you're interested in, feel free to make a comment here asking me for possible recommendations. I or others passing by will try to find some for you--though I'll note that I'm not in fandom, so my experience will be limited in that area.

Heh, it won't make much of a difference for me - I used to try and post to two comms before breakfast and have already left out about 5 or 6 comments.

I love the idea of doing something for people who are active in communities, by the way! And did I mention the SHINY GRAPHS?!?

Hmmm, okay, so the second pic is of the biggest clique, which is "a group of users where everyone is connected to everyone else". However, I am a bit unsure of who is a part of that group from the clique. It looks like it should be the ones with the red edges, however, I know that I am not (currently) connected to

sarah and

rho - there are also no edges between us. But that's also more than 12 people, so I am probably not included in the clique :)

I have a couple more graph ideas so far, a couple for communities and a couple for interests:

* How users in your circle are connected by communities (ie, if user A and user B are both in community C, they get a line between them, if they are also in community D, the line gets thicker, etc)
* How the communities you are in are connected by your circle (ie, if community A and community B both have user A, they get a line between them, if they also both have user B, the line gets thicker, etc)
* How users in your circle are connected by interests (you get the pattern)
* How the interests you have (or your entire circle, if that's not too crowded) are connected by users
* For community maintainers, how their community connected to other communities through mutual members (could also be done with interests, if I do a big crawl) -- I'd probably want the maintainer to have an icon, have the interests filled out, info, etc, to get this graph.

I think I can have more community participation for the community ones, and have people have at least X listed interests/fill out their profile some for the other.

It's the biggest cliques--not just one, you can have more than one. I have, I kid you not, 35 distinct but overlapping cliques of size 11. You have 14 of size 12.

I wish to marry your brain! :) We could have awesome stats/graphs children, I think.

And don't forget how users in your circle are connected to you by communities. I'd find that interesting, though maybe that's more something for a table than for a graph...

Yeah, well, what can I say? Your graph looks like a three year old with a nosebleed got ahold of a pencil.

I bet I could make a graph of it--if you make the users in your circle one color and the communities in your circle another color, and draw lines between them--yeah, I could dig it. Hopefully I'll have DWMinion (my Python library that does this) cleaned up enough for general dispersal soon.

Imagine if there was some way of combining Planarity with TVTropes.

And I have never done anything with a dot file, so I don't even yet know what I'll do with it :)

The program you need in order to deal with a dot file is Graphviz. It is cool!
Why?

1. One can specify an entire pretty vector-graph in a text file.
1a. The two main wikis that I use, PmWiki and IkiWiki have plugins for graphviz, which means one can add graphs to web-pages just by editing them.

2. One can write scripts to generate dot files for you (as firefoxy has already demonstrated)
2a. I wrote a script to help me sort out assignments for the Multi-Fandom Lyric Wheel ficathon by giving me a graph which showed the fandom match-ups between fandoms that participants could write and the ones that recipients wanted to receive. It made it a lot easier.
